We had announced a different site initially but that original site has received a once in a millennium chance to do building work, and as we would have been surrounded by rubble and dust we decided that a change of venue was advisable - so we are pleased to announce that we will be holding Lexicon in Exeter College Oxford. This is a city-centre college (if you know Oxford, it's on The Turl; if you don't know Oxford, that's a quiet street between the High Street and Broad Street, behind the Covered Market) with mediaeval architecture but a cosy feel. If you need accommodation, here's a Word document listing hotels and B&Bs in relation to the college, here's a list of hotels and guest houses in Oxford with Web sites, and here's a list of guest houses and B&Bs without Web sites.
How to get to Oxford
Oxford has a good train service to London, the Midlands and the North; there are coaches from various destinations and frequent coaches from London. We don't recommend driving to Oxford as the centre is pedestrianised and parking is expensive. The park and ride sites are shown on this map.
The railway station is 1 mile (1.6 km) from the college ; the bus station is half a mile (0.8 km) from the College. Trains run from Paddington Station about every hour; the journey time is 70 minutes. Plan your rail journey here.
Coaches (City Link X90, or Oxford Tube) run from Victoria every tem minutes (journey time about 100 minutes, allow extra time during peak periods). Buses also run to Oxford from the five London airports: Luton, City, Heathrow, Gatwick or Standsted. Stansted airport is served by route 75 (every two hours), Gatwick by route X80 (every two hours), and Heathrow by route X70 (every thirty minutes from the Central Bus Station at Terminals 1, 2, 3). From Gatwick there are also trains to Oxford, usually changing at Reading.
